Sophie Rundle found self-defence classes "therapeutic" when she was in training for 'Talking To The Dead'.

The actress portrays the lead role of wayward police officer DC Fiona Griffiths in the upcoming Sky Living crime thriller, and while she had "so much fun" being taught new skills for the part, she admits the classes left her "knackered".

She exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "In the book every couple of days she goes to these classes. I've never set foot in them so they packed me off and I had a brilliant trainer.

"He took me through all the basics and we worked on it on set as and when we could. I loved it, it was so much fun and completely unexpected. I'd never done anything like that before.

"It's so therapeutic. There's something really weird about boxing, kick boxing or anything like that.

"My brothers think it's hilarious and still don't believe that I can do it. But I'm like, 'No I really can. I can be quite punchy if I want to.'

"I was more concerned about the people I was training with getting hurt than me. I don't think anyone got injured though. It was OK. But it was exhausting. I'm just not naturally built to fight so doing fighting over and over left me knackered."

Sophie - who has also starred in sitcom 'Episodes' and drama 'The Bletchley Circle' - was shocked to find out just how much pent-up aggression she had in her while she was training for the role.

She added: "When we were doing some kick training my trainer said I must have a lot of pent-up aggression. I was thinking, 'Oh my god, I'm just walking around ready to explode!' "

'Talking To The Dead' starts on Tuesday 15 October at 9pm on Sky Living, concluding on Thursday 17 October.
