‘Steph’s Packed Lunch’ star and paranormal investigator Dale Bowes has died aged 28 after fighting terminal cancer

He was a ‘Lunchmate’ on 41-year-old Steph McGovern’s Channel 4 show in 2023, and had been fighting incurable synovial sarcoma of the left lung since 2021.

In the weeks leading up to his death, he said he was suffering so badly he could no longer enjoy his ghost-hunts in West Yorkshire.

Talk TV’s Gavin Wilson today led tributes to the star on Instagram, posting

alongside a picture of him and Dale: “RIP Mr Dale Bowes. A much loved Lunchmate of our @stephlunch @packedlunchc4 family!"

A GoFundMe page raising funds for Dale’s funeral says his condition worsened last month.

It added: “In March 2024, we got the news we had been dreading. There were no more treatment options for Dale as he had become too unwell.

“Dale was transferred to the care of St Gemma’s Hospice and returned home.

“Within a week, Dale was placed on an oxygen machine at home. Dale continued to get worse until he was admitted into St Gemma’s Hospice on the 25th of March 2024 for end-of-life care.

“Dale continued to fight despite all of the odds and is an inspiration to us all.”

Dale’s bio on Instagram reads: “I used to do bits on TV. Now I have terminal cancer. West Yorkshire Paranormal Investigator.”

He said in one of his final posts on the site at Christmas: “Spent the night with @west_yorkshire_paranormal_ltd_ at Todmorden Unitarian Church. Not very much activity on this occasion from what I saw but nevertheless a beautiful Church. Ice cold and in so much pain, I left a little early to get back to my hotel and rest.”

His last social media post was a tribute to the victims of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In March 2023, Dale shared his thoughts on assistant dying on ‘Steph’s Packed Lunch’, telling Steph on her now-axed show: “I’ve been told that current treatments will not cure my cancer.

“One of the treatments could help me but at the moment if I deteriorate into a situation where I’m suffering I think it should be the decision of the person who is going through that.”
