Strictly to pay homage to the BBC with new themed week

The Latin and ballroom contest returns to screens this autumn, and the celebrities and their professional dance partners will be picking a theme tune from a BBC show or one of the broadcasting corporation's services to pay tribute to during the special themed episode.

Sarah James, the Executive Producer of the show, said: “We know how much viewers love the 'Strictly' themed weeks so it’s fantastic to be able to announce a new one, celebrating the BBC’s centenary. It’s the icing on the cake to be able to confirm that we are returning to the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom this year, we can’t wait to get back to Blackpool!”

Viewers can also expect the usual Movies, Halloween and Musical weeks to return.

Among the stars taking part is Bros star Matt Goss, who recently said fans of his band will help him win the show.

The 53-year-old star was the lead singer of the 1980s pop group, which also featured his twin brother Luke as the drummer, and Matt believes the band's Brosettes will be his secret weapon in his bid to lift the glitterball trophy.

He said: "The Brosettes have been around for more than 30 years. They are superfans.

"After all this time you get to know their names and who they are.

"And they have been a huge part of our story so you care about them.

"Sometimes when we arrive at an airport, they are there and out of 100 people you recognise 70 of them. It’s a nice feeling."

Other stars taking part this year include former 'Corrie' star Kym Marsh, presenter-and-singer Fleur East, 'EastEnders' actor James Bye, and Paralympian Ellie Simmonds.

'Strictly' returns to screens on 17 September on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
