Susanna Reid is to make a one-day return to 'Good Morning Britain' from her holiday, to enable Kate Garraway to take a break with her children.

The 50-year-old TV presenter will return to the breakfast news show tomorrow (20.08.21), alongside guest co-host Richard Bacon, as nobody else on the programme was able to fill in for Kate - whose husband Derek Draper is still battling the after-effects of coronavirus, and requires 24/7 care at home - on 'GMB' at the last minute.

Kate is taking her and Derek's kids Darcey, 15, and Billy, 12, away for some rest for a few days, but she admitted they feel "emotional" about leaving him.

After oversleeping for the show today, the 54-year-old star - who still made it to work on time - said: "I'm actually about to disappear off for a little holiday.

"So I had a busy day yesterday writing lots of lists and everything, because Derek's family are descending to take care of him for a few days while I take the kids away.

"So I was up late thinking, 'Have I remembered everything?' That's my excuse.

"I just want to say a massive thank you to Susanna. She's been so kind.

"I had a very tight window where everybody could come to look after Derek so I could take the kids away.

"Obviously, he'll have nurses as well.

"But also I could get somewhere where friends could help us, because I think the three of us are quite emotional about going away without him and wondered whether that would feel too strange to do.

"It feels like a bit of a moment. It feels a bit strange.

"But we need to do it. To have a little bit of time and come back refreshed.

"So, we had a very tight window and nobody was available.

"So Susanna is coming off her holiday for one day only to present the show tomorrow to allow me to go on holiday. So thank you, Susanna."

Kate admitted this week she hopes Derek might be able to attend this year's National Television Awards after their film 'Kate Garraway: Finding Derek' was nominated in the Authored Documentary category.

But the TV presenter has now admitted this year's ceremony, which takes place on September 9th, might be "a bit soon" for Derek.

When asked on today's (19.08.21) 'GMB' if it is "realistic" that Derek might be able to attend the NTAs, she said: "Oh, I don't know.

"Yesterday it certainly wouldn't have been. I don't know whether it is right.

"It just would be a lovely thing for him to experience how much what he's been through has touched people.

"I don't know if it's going to be possible.

"We are taking things a day at a time.

"I think the logistics might be quite tricky.

"I think the organisers of the ceremony might weep at the thought of what we would have to do to make that possible. But it would be lovely.

"Maybe if it was January, but September might be a bit soon."
