There are many brilliant TV series releasing this year (2022), such as multiple Marvel Disney+ shows, along with new drama Heartstopper and returning series The Flight Attendant. Among these titles, comes an all-new story set to release on Sky next month (May, 2022).

In recent days, Sky has revealed the first trailer for The Staircase, starring Colin Firth (Kingsman franchise, Operation Mincemeat) and Toni Collette (Hereditary, Knives Out) as a husband and wife whose marriage comes to an untimely end.

The forthcoming series is based on the true case of Michael Peterson (Firth). In 2003, he was convicted of murdering his second wife, Kathleen Peterson (Collette), in December of 2001.

After almost a decade, Mr. Peterson was allowed a new trial after the judge ruled a critical prosecution witness gave misleading testimony.

The Staircase will dig even deeper into the case of Kathleen Peterson, as well as explore Mr. Peterson’s sprawling North Carolina family.

The show has a great cast involved, with Michael Stuhlbarg (Your Honor), Juliette Binoche (Chocolat), Dane DeHaan (The Amazing Spider-Man 2), Olivia DeJonge (Elvis), Rosemarie DeWitt (Little Fires Everywhere), Tim Guinee (Inventing Anna), Patrick Schwarzenegger (Moxie), Sophie Turner (Game of Thrones), Vincent Vermignon (Romy and Michele's High School Reunion), Odessa Young (Shirley) and Parker Posey (Lost in Space) joining Firth and Collette.

The recently-released trailer for The Staircase shows the cast sat around a dinner table, letting audiences put faces to the names involved. We also hear a foreshadowing line from Collette’s character, stating that there will be many “better days ahead”.

Then showcasing the investigation into Kathleen’s death, we watch as the teaser immediately suggests that she did not simply fall down the stairs, as Michael claims. It’s clear that the case is tearing the Peterson family apart; while some suspect him and others don’t, the truth may slowly be coming to the surface.

The Staircase will land exclusively on Sky and NOW on May 5th, 2022, with eight episodes.

The trailer for The Staircase is brilliant, in my opinion. It’s intriguing, sneaky, and appears to have a lot to offer viewers.

The cast looks great, and with the base story being essentially a murder investigation, there is no doubt that many true crime fans will be tuning in to watch this one.
