Union J at the Capital FM Summertime Ball

Union J's Josh Cuthbert wishes the group were on this year's 'X Factor' - because he has a crush on Sharon Osbourne.

The 20-year-old singer is gutted the boy band - who shot to fame on the ITV talent show last year - have missed out on working with the 60-year-old star, who has returned to the programme's judging panel this year, because he thinks she is "gorgeous".

Speaking at the Capital FM Summertime Ball at London's Wembley Stadium yesterday (09.06.13), he told BANG Showbiz: "I'm gutted I didn't do 'X Factor' this year. I've got a crush on Sharon Osbourne, she's got something about her. I think she's gorgeous.

"She doesn't know. She's going out with Ozzy."

The group - who are also made up of JJ Hamblett, Jaymi Hensley and George Shelley - are hoping to perform on the next series of the talent show later this year, and Josh admits that could be the perfect time to tell Sharon about his affections for her.

He added: "I hope we can perform on 'The X Factor' this year, fingers crossed. That's the dream, to come back. 'The X Factor' is our home, that's where we became Union J so we are waiting for the invite back. Maybe I will tell Sharon then, we'll see what happens."

The group also have plenty of love for 'X Factor' boss Simon Cowell after he was pelted with eggs on Saturday night's (08.06.13) live 'Britain's Got Talent' final while opera singers Richard and Adam Johnson were performing.

Josh added: "I felt really sorry for Simon. I can't believe how someone like that managed to slip eggs in. It could have been anything.

"But luckily for those two guys it didn't disrupt their singing. They did really well to carry on singing."

The boy band got some practice in for 'X Factor' by performing their debut top 10 single 'Carry You' at the Capital FM Summertime Ball, as well as a rendition of Carly Rae Jepsen's 'Call Me Maybe'.
