Friends of Will Mellor's wife once accused him of drugging her.
The 'Dates' actor - who played David in the witty drama about the tribulations of dating - has been married to Michelle McSween for six years but admitted the couple had a terrible first date, during which she got so drunk those around her thought she'd been spiked by the star.
Speaking at the 2nd Annual TriForce Short Film Festival 2013 held at BAFTA in London's Piccadilly, the 37-year-old actor told BANG Showbiz: "I met my wife on a really bad date to be honest. She got very drunk and she hadn't eaten.
"I ploughed her with champagne trying to show off and then she ended up throwing up and falling all over the place. All her friends thought I gave her drugs. They thought I gave her a rape drug!
"I was like, 'What you talking about?' They said, 'She was fine a minute ago!' I said, 'I've only given her champagne!' And the next minute she had to leave the club because she was so paralytic."
Despite Michelle's drunken state, the former 'Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps' actor joked he must have been doing something right.
He quipped: "And now she's my wife. So here's a tip: Get them p**sed!"
Will was joined by the likes of 'Liz & Dick' star Tanya Franks, former 'EastEnders' actress Preeya Kalidas and Holby City's Hugh Quarshie on the red carpet at the 2nd Annual Short Film Festival 2013, which was co-founded by Jimmy Akingbola and Fraser Ayres.
