Zoe Saldana will be starring in an American remake of Rosemary's Baby.

The 35-year-old actress has been tipped to play leading lady Rosemary in NBC's new four-hour mini-series, which is based on Ira Levin's 1967 horror novel, which was made famous by the 1968 movie starring Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes.

The 'Star Trek into Darkness' star will play young wife Rosemary Woodhouse who moves into an apartment in Paris, France, with her husband and later discovers it has a dark, creepy, past.

After finding out she is pregnant, Rosemary becomes suspicious that her husband and their neighbours have sinister plans for her unborn child.

Lionsgate TV is set to produce the mini-series, which is being directed by Agnieszka Holland, while Scott Abbott and James Wong pen the script.

Meanwhile, Joshua Maurer, Alix Witlin and David Stern will executive, alongside Saldana, Cisely Saldana and Mariel Saldana, who will produce.

Quinn Taylor, Executive Vice President of NBC Entertainment told Variety: "Zoe has proven that she is one of our most gifted actresses and we think she has the perfect combination of spirit and gravitas to take on the title role from Ira Levin's infamous novel.

"With Zoe leading the cast under the direction of Agnieszka Holland, this re-imagined event mini-series is off to a great start."

Filming for 'Rosemary's Baby' is set to kick off soon in Paris, France.
