The 'Troublemaker' hitmaker - who will co-host the new series of the talent contest with Caroline Flack - now thinks the DJ would be a great addition to the programme, but was initially apprehensive.

He said: "When I heard Grimmy's name, I thought, 'Oh this is strange...' Grimmy is already in the public eye and he's involved in music, so if he does get the job it would be a great move.

"People forget that when Louis Walsh and Simon Cowell first did the show, people didn't really know who they were."

So far, only Simon Cowell is confirmed to be a judge on the next series, and Olly has been trying to "convince" his pal Robbie Williams to take part, though he thinks that is unlikely to happen.

He said: "I was trying to convince Robbie that he should do it, but that's probably not going to happen."

Olly - who shot to fame when he came second on the show in 2009 - adored his previous stint co-hosting spin-off show 'The Xtra Factor' with Caroline and has promised they won't be taking the main show too seriously.

He told Star magazine: "Doing 'Xtra Factor' for two years was one of the best things I've ever done in my life - I enjoyed every single minute of it. For 'X Factor', we don't want to be too serious though. We want it to be tongue-in-cheek and a bit of a giggle."
