Natalie Cassidy has confirmed she is returning to 'EastEnders'.

The 30-year-old actress is to reprise her role as Sonia Fowler - who she played from 1993 to 2007 - on the BBC One soap in January, and her alter-ego will be joined by daughter Rebecca, who she gave birth to back in 2000.

Natalie said: "After seven years being out of the show, apart from the odd episode, I am extremely excited and honoured to be making a full-time return.

"I feel so lucky as an actress to get back to my roots. With Dominic Treadwell-Collins as executive producer, it's such an exciting time for the show. I cannot wait to work with Patsy Palmer (Bianca Butcher) and Lindsey Coulson (Carol Jackson) again. Bring it on!"

Sonia was involved in several high-profile storylines during Natalie's first spell in the soap, including a lesbian relationship with nurse Naomi Julien (Petra Letang) and her shock pregnancy.

Natalie's return is one of a number of cast changes set to occur in 'EastEnders', which will see Danny Dyer join the soap as Shirley Carter's (Linda Henry) cousin Mick Carter, who will be the new landlord of the Queen Vic pub.

The 'Football Factory' star will join the show in December alongside Kellie Bright, who will play his on-screen wife Linda Carter.
