Sam comes under fire from Lewis and Rachel for her suspicions over his being the attacker – a situation made all the worse when she not only lets slip that she’s discussed her concerns with Jack but also later reports back to Rachel about her seeing Lewis and Marie arguing on the beach. Meanwhile, Jack himself has started checking into Lewis, hoping that his initiative will earn him some much needed brownie points with the boss – only, with George’s intervention, it’s not long before he’s called off the case for having a conflict of interest. To make matter worse, when Lewis is eventually called into the station at George’s request, Marie – so shaken by her attack that she’s decided to quit her job and start again somewhere else – unconvincingly testifies that he wasn’t the culprit, forcing the police to let him go.Perfectly plannedThe court has brought Jack and Martha’s divorce date forward to the following day and, despite their past differences, it’s clear that Jack still can’t let go when it comes to protecting his ex; he’s certain that Michael can’t be trusted. But matters of the heart will soon be far from his mind, thanks to a certain George Watson’s latest scam. Having called Colin to give him the go-ahead, George goes to McGrath to tell him that he’s heard a rumour that whatever Jack’s involved in will be happening tomorrow. The boss puts a surveillance team on standby but stresses that no-one is to know that Jack is the one under the spotlight until the very last minute. Later that day, George’s plan finally comes together when he talks Jack out of taking the whole day off to go to court tomorrow; instead, he offers to cover for him if he needs to step out for a while. Will Jack work out the truth in time?Caught in the act

Hoping that they’ll be able to protect Annie and Geoff’s interests, Martha and Michael take them out to the ailing farm, only to find a less-than-sympathetic bank manager, who can do nothing but claim that his hands are tied.

Never one to give up, and against all better judgment, a determined Martha later returns with Michael and, having rammed her car through the locked gate, proceeds to retrieve the kids’ belongings from the house. But they’re not the only ones paying a second visit.

The manager also appears on the scene and, the property now having been repossessed, calls the police on them for breaking and entering. And the look on the duty constable’s face is a picture, because – yes, you’ve guessed it – it’s none other than Jack.
