Hello! It's a new year in Summer Bay, and it's all going horribly wrong. We don't mean the lush new opening credits. Or the new theme tune, which is being sung by Lance (or so it seems). Nor are we talking about the fact that everybody seems to have forgotten about Christmas (we guess Santa cancelled it after all) and the weird lapse of time surrounding recent events. Instead, it's all about Sally lying slumped in a car park with a stab wound to the stomach. (If anybody else dares to suggest that she'd have had a better chance had the wound been to her chest, we'll be very cross indeed and inform your parents.) A horrified Brad discovers her and whisks her off to hospital, while Rocco - the dog who did the deed - tries to make everything better by taking a swing at his own reflection. Will Sally live or die? When Kim answered the door, he might have been expecting carol singers. However, he was presented with the sight of a knocked-up Kit with one hand on her back and the other one holding a ciggie. "I know the timing's not great", she coughs, as she stubs out one fag and lights another. "But I couldn't keep it from you anymore." Thankfully, she's not in town to give him the once-over with the social services, and similarly it doesn't seem as though Kim will be joining Fathers4Justice any time soon. Kit, who has had her hair done by somebody who doesn't like her and now looks like a pregnant Worzel Gummidge, insists that she won't pressure Kim into getting involved. She's prepared to bring up baby all by herself. So, what will Kim decide? Well, after agonising over the revelation, he prepares to break the news to Rachel. But just when he's about to let his secret slip, Rachel receives a call informing her of what's happened to Sal. We guess it'll have to wait a while. Oh boy, how we admire the super-talented Rachel. First she was a shrink, then she was a midwife, and now she's performing delicate surgical operations on one of her closest friends. (The conflict of interest klaxon honks as we try not to remember what happened to Leah when her old mate Flynn got scalpel-happy.) While Sally lies on the slab, her friends and family congregate in the corridor. They instantly come to the conclusion that Johnny was involved in the stabbing somewhere along the line, and Ric promptly storms out on a mission to collar Rocco. Martha and Matilda give chase. And when they turn up on Rocco's doorstep, he's horrified to learn that Sal is still alive - and he denies any involvement. Meanwhile, Brad opens up to Alf. "After Emily passed away," he mopes, "I buried my feelings for Sally. And now this happens." Poor old Bradders. "Maybe I've left it too late", he concludes, as the monitors start beeping urgently and Sally's nose starts flashing red. Yikes. Maybe you have, Brad. Maybe you have.
