In the wake of her painful break-up with Ric, Matilda is desperate for revenge and, ignoring the fact that any relative of Aden’s is more likely to be sinner than saint, finds herself strangely drawn to his cousin Simon. After an evening of playing the perfect listener, Simon manages to keep up the pretence of his being a gentleman by walking her home and is delighted to find luck on his side when, after a confrontation with her ex on her doorstep, Matilda decides to invite him to stay the night. The morning after the night before and things only go from bad to worse, with both Tony and Cassie ready to give Mattie a much needed wake-up call about her choice of bedfellow. While they have little success, Ric knows of a sure-fire passion-killer and decides to publicly reveal Simon’s dirty tricks: he’s going to be the police prosecutor’s main witness against Cassie.Next in lineMeanwhile, Rachel is feeling particularly jumpy after discovering a threatening note stuck to her car - a situation made all the worse when the culprit steps things up a notch by leaving a second message in her mailbox. Its content - ‘What did you do with your baby?’ - is enough to convince her that this has to come from someone working at the hospital; everyone within its walls essentially a potential suspect, the beefed-up security measures are doing little to ease her fears.Worse news follows when McGrath explains that forensic evidence reveals no physical evidence to link either of the notes with anything found at the crime scenes. While the investigation remains open, a terrified Rachel can’t help but wonder: is she about to become the attacker’s next victim?

She's back

Elsewhere, a currently unemployed Drew is becoming increasingly frustrated at his lack of job prospects following his being fired from the Surf Club; the fact of Dan soon to be leaving the Bay is just one more thing to be depressed about.

His failed, last-ditch attempt at getting some work by convincing Viv to hire him as a more permanent employee – aside from creating tension between him and Mattie – leaves him wondering whether the time may have come for him to return to school and get his HSC, hoping to put himself on a level playing field with his competitors. If only life were that simple of his good friend Ric.

It turns out that, aside from listening to Drew’s woes, Viv is back in the Bay to deliver some shocking news: she’s pregnant – with Ric’s baby.
