With a new determination, Sky expects to plead not guilty at her committal hearing. She’s gutted when Toadie states her best option is to plead guilty to manslaughter, rather than risk being found guilty for murder. She’s shocked when the prosecutor dismisses this attempt at a plea bargain, and finds she now faces a possible quarter century behind bars. Rather than risk this by pleading innocent, Sky agrees to plead guilty. To lure Charlotte into confessing to Terrence’s murder, Boyd concocts a confession about killing a man in Tasmania. Feeling she now has equal leverage in the crime stakes, she finally confesses - secretly captured on Boyd’s mp3 player. But as police close in, Charlotte takes off in the car and Boyd’s obliged to jump in with her. Attempting to stop the car, Boyd struggles with Charlotte and the car crashes. With Boyd in a critical condition, Charlotte tells police she was kidnapped by Boyd because she knows his secret – he’s a murderer. Back on Ramsay Street, all are appalled by Boyd’s flight, and questions are raised about his deeper culpability in Charlotte’s crimes. Only Janae seems to find the idea of Boyd’s criminality absurd. She and Steph are allied in feeling Boyd is guilty only of crimes of the heart.
