Susan’s moved by Zeke’s passionate appeal and decides to plead ‘not guilty’. Returning to work, Susan’s unable to keep control of the class and suffers a public embarrassment at the hands of an unforgiving Declan. Declan feels the burden of his mother’s disappointment when she’s called to the school following his humiliation of Susan. Unable to inflict further pain on Rebecca, Declan decides to cut his losses and leave Erinsborough. Rosie’s troubled by Toadie’s emotional investment in Susan’s case and suggests he step back from defending her in court. An argument between the partners sees Toadie turn to Harold as a sounding board – which helps Toadie realize he is too emotionally involved and needs to step back, Toadie apologises to Rosie and agrees to bring in a hired gun to defend Susan.Steve leaves Sally, a heavily pregnant guinea pig, under Bridget’s care, hoping to boost her confidence and bring her out of her shell. He charges Riley to keep a surreptitious eye on her, and retreats to the General store. When Sally the guinea pig goes into labour, Bridget has to deliver the baby guinea pigs herself. It’s a small, but important step forward in restoring Bridget’s confidence in herself.
