The 24-year-old actor - who turned his back on the soap in 2011 - is keen to reprise his role of cheeky rascal Darren Miller in the BBC One show next year when his former co-star Jake Wood, who has taken a 12-month hiatus to carve out a career in the US, bounds back into Walford as Max Branning.

He explained: "Fans who see me usually say, 'When are you going back? Max needs you!' I know Jake has a year off, so maybe we could roll back in together. I suppose there's scope for anyone to return so you never know but, either way, I loved playing Darren. I adore the show and I still watch it at home all the time - I'm probably an even bigger fan of the show now and I can't speak highly enough of it."

However, for now, Charlie has his hands tied up with his new stage production of World War II drama 'Flare Path.'

He told InsideSoap magazine: "The show is about wartime pilots stationed in Lincolnshire and what happens in the hotel when they're off duty.

"It's quite nice this all happens behind the scenes so you get to envision the stories the characters are telling for yourself."

'Flare Path' is touring the UK until May 2016.
