The 50-year-old actor quit the ITV soap in May in order to work on the sci-fi sitcom 'Red Dwarf' for digital channel Dave, despite the show's bosses pleading with him to stay and he has reportedly told friends he is worried Lloyd will die in September's live episode.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Craig says he has heard strong rumours that his character is going to be bumped off, along with Andrea (Beckett, his girlfriend played by Hayley Tamaddon).

"There is a feeling in the 'Corrie' camp that the producer wants to make his mark against people who want to leave and kill them off.

"He says he is a bit miffed because it would always be nice for him to go back."

Craig's final episode will air in September as will the live show for the soap's 60th anniversary celebrations.

Speaking after Craig decided to leave the show, an ITV insider said: "This is a massive blow for 'Corrie'. Craig is a popular cast member and his shoes will be hard to fill. He first announced he was thinking of leaving weeks ago, but bosses tried to change his mind with a huge pay rise."

However Craig - who was already believed to be earning an estimated £200,000 each year from playing Lloyd - was reportedly unconvinced by the offers from the soap and now bosses are worried other stars may follow, especially after Alison King, who plays Carla Connor, recently announced she was also leaving.
