The pair first met when Dion was 12 in 1986, he was 38 at the time. Her mother had sent him a demo tape of her singing which brought them together.

In 1987, they began dating and got engaged in 1991.The couple married at Notre Dame Basilica in Montreal, Quebec on the 17th December 1994.
On the 5th Jaunuary 2000, Dion and Angelil renewed their wedding vows in Las Vegas.
Their first son Rene Charles was born on the 25th January 2001 and reportedly after a miscarriage, Dion gave birth to twin boys on the 25th October 2010.
On 14th January 2016, Angélil sadly died from complications of cancer.
