This has now extended to weddings, with 18 per cent of British couples hosting eco-friendly weddings.

MarryAbroad.co.uk found that more couples are now enquiring about ‘agro-tourismo’ countryside weddings that consider the environment.

To add to this, an extra 15 per cent of couples want to make sure that their wedding is environmentally conscious by asking what they can do to minimise waste and excess.

Even when couples are marrying overseas, they’re now choosing places in Europe so the distance travelled is minimised, therefore reducing carbon footprint.

Gone are the days when couples are asking their wedding guests for extravagant gifts, now couples are asking for charity gifts and/or carbon offsetting.

One of the biggest changes has been in the suppliers that couples are choosing for their weddings.

A quarter of couples are now choosing local/artisan suppliers for their weddings over mainstream services.

If marrying abroad, they’re also choosing to take part in that countries specific customs to keep costs down and to be in keeping with the local vibes.
