Asif Ali was playing in the Halifax League for Illingworth St Mary in West Yorkshire when he hit the big shot while batting but his joy soon turned to despair when the ball shattered through the windscreen of his car that had been parked nearby.

Ali now faces a costly repair bill and admits that the incident was made even more humiliating as his family were watching him bat.

He told The Yorkshire Evening Post newspaper: "The worst thing was that my wife and kids were watching the match on YouTube live stream.

"They saw the whole thing. I got off the pitch to texts from my kids saying, 'Dad we can't believe you just did that.'

"It's going to cost about £200 and a day off work because the car is full of glass."

To add insult to injury, Ali's 44 not out was not enough for his team to win the match against Sowerby.
