A new study published in the journal Optica reveals that scientists in Canada have been able to recreate the iconic cloak that featured in the fantasy franchise thanks to the manipulation of light and the transferring of energy from certain colours.

Professor Jose Azana - who worked on the study - said: ''Our work represents a breakthrough in the quest for invisibility cloaking.

''We have made a target object fully invisible to observation under realistic broadband illumination by propagating the illumination wave through the object with no detectable distortion, exactly as if the object and cloak were not present.''
