The driver said that he heard a "strange noise" coming from the engine, which they assumed was the result of a mechanical fault.

The RSPCA were called and lifted the bonnet and found the animal. They attempted to lure him out using food but it proved unsuccessful.

Animal rescue officer Rebecca Goulding said that the moggy was "so lucky" not to have been injured or burnt during the journey.

She shared: "I managed to reach the poor kitten and bring him to safety. He was absolutely covered in grease but thankfully had no injuries so he’s a very lucky cat. The caller explained that they’d heard a strange noise all the way from South Wales and had assumed it was something wrong with the engine.

"That means the kitten must have been stuck there for about four hours. He’s so lucky to have not been burnt or injured. He’s definitely used up one of his nine lives on the trip!"
