An apparent dead body on a Florida beach turned out to be a store mannequin.

The 'corpse' was discovered by a volunteer named Kathleen working for Ocean Hour, an organisation that sets up beach clean-up events, who found what seemed to be a human body missing its head.

The group explained how another volunteer on the scene called the emergency services, before Kathleen took a closer look and discovered that the barnacle-coated doll was a headless shop mannequin that had spent a considerable amount of time in the water before washing up on the beach.

Ocean Hour said in a Facebook post: "We are glad it wasn't a real body."
