Rentokil Initial have developed a hi-tech identification system that will be unveiled later this week at the company's innovation hub in Sussex.

The technology will allow cameras at infested sites to identify individual vermin to enable controllers to count the number of rats targeting a specific location, before following them and catching them one-by-one.

The new tech has had trials across the UK and is now ready to be rolled out across the nation, with the company declaring: "Pest control is going digital."

Experts came up with the technology after discovering that tame and wild rats had different skull shapes and fur colours.

The new cameras will be able to pick out minute differences in the head shapes of individual rodents.
