The driver of a silver Mercedes was stopped near Yaxley in Cambridgeshire by an unmarked police car after the vehicle was spotted going at 110mph and undertaking in terrible weather conditions.

Taking to Twitter, an officer from the Beds, Cambs and Herts Roads Policing Unit wrote: ''The 'professional' HGV driver was very sorry but he 'needed the toilet, a number two'.

''Err that's okay then. Reported.''

A driver caught driving in excess of 100mph could face disqualification rather than penalty points, although that is at the discretion of the court.
