Slumdog Millionaire

Slumdog Millionaire has earned 10 Oscar nominations, with three of them being earmarked for Indian musician maestro A.R. Rahman, for his original score and the two songs composed by him.

The film's surprise runaway success has both delighted, and in some cases infuriated some of the big names in Bollywood including Amitabh Bachchan, who publicly slammed the movie.

Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of an 18-year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai, who goes on to win 20 million rupees on India's "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?"

The film has also earned nominations for Best Picture, Best Director and Cinematography, to name just a few, with British Director Danny Boyle tipped for success.

The 81st annual Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 22, in Hollywood and is expected to be broadcast live in over 200 countries around the world.

Slumdog Millionaire is currently sitting pretty at the top of the box office in Britain and is likely to repeat its success when its released in India on January 29.
