The ‘Frida’ actress admitted it is “important” for her to “make good choices” with the foods she eats because eating is her typical response whenever anything has sparked strong feelings within her.

Talking to HELLO! magazine, she said: “My relationship with food is also extremely emotional as I eat when I am sad, I eat when I am happy, I eat when I’m relaxing.

“That’s why it is important for me to make good choices when it comes to the food.”

And Salma loves foods that remind her of growing up.

She said: “It’s a cultural reflection of who you are and where you came from.

“I am happy whenever I’m eating food my family would make, because it brings me back to happy memories.”

The 54-year-old star believes what people eat is “deeply personal”.

Asked her favourite treats, she said: “Strawberries with chocolate, pomegranates, all kinds of hot chillis, French cheese, rocket salad, quesadillas with basil and mint, truffles, good red wine…”

To mark Plant a Seed Day on 20 March, the ‘Like a Boss’ actress – who has 13-year-old daughter Valentina with husband Francois-Henri Pinault - plans to create her own salsa garden of chillis, tomatoes, peppers, garlic, and various herbs.

She said: “I was very fortunate to grow up with a grandmother and mother who loved planting food.

“I got to learn a lot about the properties of herbs and the joy of cooking with things you cut from your own garden.

“It’s not only important for your health, but also for our connection to the earth.

“It’s actually easier than you think and so rewarding.”
