The former One Direction star, 30, follows in the footsteps of Steve Aoki, Dianne Warren, James Arthur, Simon Cowell, and trustee Leona Lewis, in helping to highlight the magnificent work of the Essex-based animal welfare charity.

The 'Love Like This' singer - who has previously campaigned for the arts, education, and food inequality - said: "Hopefield Animal Sanctuary provides a safe place for abandoned and mistreated animals. They educate the local and afar communities on animal welfare and I’m honoured to be partnering with them to spread their message and save animals in need.”

Dave Schlaich, CEO of Hopefield Animal Sanctuary, added: “We are so excited and proud to welcome Zayn as an Ambassador for Hopefield Animal Sanctuary. The winter months are the hardest for the sanctuary so this has given all our staff and volunteers a great boost. Zayn is such a compassionate animal lover and we are Incredibly grateful that he is so kindly putting his passion and energy into helping share our message of loving behaviour towards all animals around the world and supporting the essential rescue work we do here.”

At this time, the sanctuary cares for over 500 "sick, unwanted and mistreated animals".

A press release notes: "Their mission is to help animals in need and provide education and awareness for humane behaviour towards all animals around the world. Their rescue animals live out their lives at Hopefield in peace, surrounded by love and receiving the best care."

The 'I Don't Wanna Live Forever' hitmaker loves his animals dearly and recently shared a heartwarming tale of how he can no longer name his chickens after he was left heartbroken when his beloved feathered friend died in his arms.

Revealing the animals he keeps, Zayn - who has three-year-old daughter Khai with his ex-partner Gigi Hadid - told the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast: “I have three cats, three dogs… three turtles, six chickens."

The singer was so worried about his poorly chicken that he took her to the vets, even though it's not normal for surgeries to treat the birds.

Zayn admitted it was "kind of funny" the thought of him taking the chicken to the vet, but he was devastated and couldn't stop crying on the way there.

Recalling the tragic incident with his favourite fowl, he added: “I took my chicken to the vet to get a scan because something was wrong with her.

“The vet laughed at me and said ‘People don’t bring chickens here’. They still charged me for an X-Ray and then I took my chicken all the way home and cried. She died in my arms.”

Zayn and supermodel Gigi have been raising their little girl between the catwalk beauty's New York apartment and the singer’s farm in Pennsylvania on The Hadid Farm.
