The 'Pussy Island' director - who portrayed Bonnie Carlson - doubts there will be another series of the hit HBO show because late director Jean-Marc Vallée was the "visionary" for the drama.

Asked if a third season is on the cards during a fan Q+A for GQ on TikTok, she replied: “I don’t think it is.

“We talked about doing a season three a lot, but unfortunately, Jean-Marc Vallée, our incredible director, passed away this last year and I just can’t imagine going on without him.”

She added: "He really was the visionary for that show. So, unfortunately, it’s done.”

The 'Dallas Buyers Club' director passed away suddenly on Christmas Day last year, aged 58, of natural causes.

Jean-Marc earned two Emmy Awards for directing and producing the mini-series.

Zoe's comment comes a month after Reese Witherspoon - who starred as Madeline Martha Mackenzie and executive produced the show - admitted she and her co-stars would love to "create" their characters - also including Nicole Kidman (Celeste Wright), Laura Dern (Renata Klein) and Shailene Woodley (Jane Champman) - again somehow.

She said: "There is certainly a deep desire for all of us to connect and create those characters again."

Reese said: "Somebody asked me the other day, 'What co-stars do you talk to more than any other?' It’s absolutely the 'Big Little Lies' cast. We’re always talking and texting."

However, like Zoe, Reese admitted it would be difficult to continue without Jean-Marc.

She added: "He was our brother. So much of that series was born of his imagination and his creativity, so it is hard to imagine a future without him. But there is certainly a deep desire for all of us to connect and create those characters again."
