If you were walking on ice or snow in your bare feet, then you may be having doubts about something and are worried about proceeding with whatever it is.
Walking in muddy conditions suggests that you have found yourself in a dirty or messy situation you want to be cleansed of. Or that someone is trying to hold you back- do you know who this could be?
