Manolo Blahnik

Manolo Blahnik

Manolo Blahnik is "sick" of seeing his shoes appear in Sex and the City - because he never wanted to be a celebrity designer.

The luxury heels became a staple on Sarah Jessica Parker's hit TV show when it first aired in the 1990s, and regular appearances in the long-running series cemented the brand in pop culture.

Blahnik admits the show has given the business a major boost over the years, but he is desperate to distance himself - and his shoes - from the fashion-focused franchise.

He says, "Well, we had a very good year last year, thanks to those stupid satin shoes (which Parker wore in the Sex and the City movie). That shoe saved our company.

"(But) if people talk to me about Sex and the City, I get sick. The taxi drivers recognise me now. It becomes too much and I don't feel comfortable.
