Brits Sacrifice Traditional Christmas Dinner

Brits Sacrifice Traditional Christmas Dinner

The research, conducted by Fairy to celebrate donating over £1m for Make-A-Wish Foundation, revealed that us Brits are a romantic bunch with the perfect Christmas wish list consisting of a white Christmas, magical sleigh ride and a Christmas romance.

One in five men wish it could be Christmas every day and, despite the ‘getaway’ chaos of recent years, 86% of us don’t worry about the impact of snow fall on our travel.

But, in contrast, 40 per cent of Brits are prepared to sacrifice the traditional Christmas dinner in favour of an alternative option, despite the majority claiming that turkey epitomises the taste of Christmas.

With the cost of the average traditional Christmas dinner rising by 7.5 per cent last year and retailers charging around £20 for a medium sized turkey this year, not to mention all the added extras, the cost of a roast turkey dinner may be the cause for the shift towards an alternative Christmas meal.

In fact, one in ten of those surveyed confessed they would rather have a takeaway as their festive feast, with the cost of fish and chips, pizza or curry coming in at considerably less than a seasonal bird with all the trimmings.

Or perhaps, it is less the cost of Christmas dinner that is really putting Brits off and more the search for an easy solution to the mammoth task of clearing up– with over 50 per cent claiming washing up after the big meal is their most dreaded Christmas chore!
