Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City

With many a game being successful, which should be given the chance to shine as a movie, or even a television series? We take a look at some of those we think have the potential to go on to be big ratings hits.

Grand Theft Auto

Definitely one that would be better off as an on-going television series, Grand Theft Auto could feature some brilliant plot lines straight from the games, and even some absolutely brand new ones altogether. It has the ability to last for as long as the writer desires, as straying a little from the stuff we’ve all mashed our thumbs over repeatedly probably wouldn’t hurt it in the long run.

Of course, we’d take out most of the senseless killing and carjacking because that would really add nothing to the plot, except for the fact that the main character would have to be a raging psychopathic serial killer.

The casting would have to be absolutely perfect, and we already have Tom Hardy in mind for one of the game’s many characters. Not that these sorts of big names would be needed, because the almighty GTA following would surely go ahead in making it an extremely successful project.

The Legend of Zelda

We’ve had animated shorts, but we’re calling for a Zelda movie!

In an elaborate April Fool’s Day prank produced by IGN back in 2008, Zelda lovers around the world were tricked into believing that a live-action adaptation of the series was being produced by Rainfall Films. It was a cruel trick that left many disappointed and hoping that the future would hold something more substantial, but so far we’ve been given not even a hint of a movie ever being produced.

We think the creators are seriously missing out on something here which could only boost the already incredibly successful franchise to new heights, although perhaps animation is the way to go rather than live-action. Then there is the mighty decision on whether Link would be able to speak, or remain the reserved and quiet character everyone’s grown to love.

Call of Duty

Yes, war films have been overdone in the past, but with the storyline from the great games being threaded into the plot of the on-screen version, we think anyone creating this flick would have to do something extreme to get this wrong.

Rumours have been circulating for a while now, but there’s still not been an official announcement of any big screen deals.

The fact that the games try to represent a plethora of different nationalities and armed forces could prove for some interesting viewing, and open the door for a whole new style to be brought to the tired genre.

BioShock

Back in 2008, Take Two announced their deal with Universal Studios to create the movie of the same name, but just when it’ll actually get underway and be released to the waiting fans is anybody’s guess.

Yep, it’s another ‘will they won’t they?’, with many a report stating that the planned film of the best-selling series is in constant jeopardy of never seeing the light of day because of the planned R rated certification.

We’ve had production team members swapping and changing and dropping out more than we’ve seen in a lot of projects, but we really hope that all this time isn’t wasted and the final piece that eventually comes together is something worth a watch.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Horror films are brilliant, and we can’t think of any game in this genre that would suit the move better.

Before you even attempt to go into the world of Amnesia, you are given a message by the developers that you should not be playing this game to win, but to fully immerse yourself within the storyline and get to grips with the plot.

It’s a daring move, but one that has absolutely paid off, and if they can somehow relay that from the game onto the cinema screen, we’ll be highly impressed!
