The game developers - who are the brains behind popular games such as the 'Dark Souls' series and 'Pac-Man' - have released details of a new "challenging action-RPG" game titled 'Code Vein', which they state will be coming to "major home consoles" next year.

In a statement the developers said of the game: "In this challenging action-RPG, 'Code Vein' finds players assuming the role of a Revenant. After stumbling into Vein, players are tasked to embark into the world with a companion picked from the various residents of Vein to uncover lost memories and an exit out of this new demented reality. The world of 'Code Vein' is dangerous, full of vicious enemies and monstrous bosses to put players' combat skills to the test."

As of yet, there has been no confirmed release date for the title as the website for the game states the project is still "under development", with more information to be released in the future.

According to the website, an official description for the game calls for players to "unlock your past" and "escape your living nightmare" as you travel through the game.

The game overview reads: "In the not too distant future, a mysterious disaster has brought collapse to the world as we know it. Towering skyscrapers, once symbols of prosperity, are now lifeless graves of humanity's past pierced by the Thorns of Judgment. At the center of the destruction lies a hidden society of Revenants called Vein. This final stronghold is where the remaining few fight to survive, blessed with Gifts of power in exchange for their memories and a thirst for blood. Give into the bloodlust fully and risk becoming one of the Lost, fiendish ghouls devoid of any remaining humanity. Wandering aimlessly in search of blood, the Lost will stop at nothing to satisfy their hunger. Team up and embark on a journey to the ends of hell to unlock your past and escape your living nightmare in CODE VEIN. (sic)"
