For a truly unique gift why not name a BFI cinema seat, the new Magnificent 700 project gives dedicated film lovers an elegant name plaque on the back of a favourite BFI Southbank cinema seat for five years whilst at the same time supporting the BFI’s charitable activities.

It doesn’t get much more festive and feel-good than a Hollywood musical, and the BFI’s Doris Day season is brimming with classics, featuring a great array of musical treats and romantic comedies, perfect for a magical yuletide.

Vintage charms include a 1950’s Christmas with Doris Day in On Moonlight Bay (1951), Pillow Talk (1959) in which the favourite girl next door stars alongside the dashing Rock Hudson and the wonderful to look at and very funny Young at Heart (1954) with Frank Sinatra. The BFI’s Doris Day season will provide the perfect tonic for any winter blues.

The Ghosts of Christmas Specials Past TV season at BFI Southbank is a special collection of yuletide treats from the BFI National Archive.

We salute the extraordinary talents of Eric Sykes with three Christmas specials and the ‘camp’ side of Christmas is celebrated with a mixture of outlandish costumes and over-the-top performances, which include The Goodies joining the Crackerjack regulars for the Crackerjack Christmas Pantomime of Aladdin.

There will also be a collection of animated Christmas stories which will charm the whole family, including a Christmas outing for Robbie the Reindeer in Hooves of Fire (1999).

Dip into the BFI’s 250 title DVD collection and you’re sure to find plenty that will be enthusiastically received - from the lavish Ghost Stories for Christmas 5-disc box set of the classic 1970s BBC adaptations, to a lasting memento of London with Julien Temple’s LONDON The Modern Babylon or the silent film travelogue collection, Wonderful London.

Then when it’s time for a well-earned rest from all your Christmas shopping or in-between films, you can eat mince pies, drink mulled wine and be merry in the popular benugo bar & kitchen or riverfront bar & kitchen.
