Britain is a burglar’s playground, with a staggering 745,000 homes targeted by opportunist thieves during the last year, according to the British Crime Survey.

Research has revealed burglaries increase by 26% during the latter half of the year, peaking over the festive period.

Although it has been widely reported that the number of crimes recorded by the police has dropped by a third over the last decade, burglaries are still prevalent, with three in five of them involving entry and two in five resulting in a loss. And with the average home containing over £5,000 of gadgets, jewellery and portable electrical items, Chubbsafes, a trusted provider of durable safes, is urging homeowners to protect their valuables.

Steve Keogh, Chubbsafes, warned: “With the nights drawing in, it is not surprising that burglaries increase during the winter months. Shorter daylight hours and valuable home contents mean that burglars often choose the festive period in particular to strike.

“The fact that two in five burglaries result in a loss is testimony to the very real need for adequate security measures to protect our valuables. Statistics show that by taking simple precautions, such as investing in a reliable and durable safe, you can deter thieves.

“With such a steep rise in burglaries during the latter half of the year, we want to raise awareness of the potential dangers and encourage the nation to keep their valuables secure.”

Home security is clearly as pertinent as ever.  Storing precious items in a tough, reliable safe acts as a powerful deterrent to would-be thieves in the event of a break in.

From important documents, such as passports and insurance papers, to expensive jewellery and electrical gadgets, Chubbsafes offers its Elements range of robust, domestic safes designed to protect the nation’s valuables.

Chubbsafes believes in protection on a wider scale, which is why the security provider has teamed up with four environmental charities. Each charity will receive an annual donation and has been carefully chosen not only for the essential work they do but also to reflect an ‘Element’ from the range:  Clear Carbon represents Air, WaterAid for Water, TREE AID for Earth and Cool Earth for Fire.
