I've gotta admit it, I'm a stereotypically messy man. I hate cleaning up and only do so when it's absolutely necessary. Though I'm firm in the belief that a tidy space leads to a tidy mind, I often lack the get up and go to actually follow through and keep my living and working areas shiny and polished. So, when I was offered the chance to review the Shark DuoClean Cordless Upright Vacuum with Powered Lift-Away IC160UK, my first thought was "sure, my parents would love to check it out."

Vacuuming with a smile isn't something I thought anybody really did...

Vacuuming with a smile isn't something I thought anybody really did...

Currently on sale at £339.99 from £449.99, it's a pricey but swanky bit of kit. I must admit, my attention was piqued when I saw the product slide out of its cardboard prison. Who knew a hoover could be so attractive?

One of my biggest problems with vacuum cleaners is having to flip a power cord over my head, back and forth as I do my best to get in the corners of rooms around the house that look nothing like the perfectly accessible spaces you see on television ads. Here, you never have that problem, meaning you can actually hoover your home with a smile on your face.

Shark promise that their DuoClean technology offers up two motorised brush rolls, allowing the vacuum to target and remove even the smallest of dust particles that aren't visible to the naked eye, as well as the larger debris scattered around your living areas.

Their Anti-Allergen technology combines with this to capture and hold over 99.9% of dust and allergens inside the vacuum, rather than shooting it back out into the air. If you're looking to avoid the common cold this Winter, this may be the perfect addition to your cleaning collection.

With their Powered Lift-Away technology, Shark are also allowing homeowners one of the most laidback vacuuming experiences on the market. Now, instead of having to unplug and replug in your cord to move around the home, you can simply lift the detachable pod away from the vacuum's floorhead to reach even the most awkward of places.

Another personal pet peeve when it comes to hoovering is the extremely loud noise many of them make. Whenever I've hoovered in the past, I've finished with a headache. They also send my dog into a spin. Fortunately, this vacuum is the quietest I've ever heard. Sure, my pup still wants to attack it if he sees or hears it going off, but he can't hear it through three closed doors anymore, which is a major step-up from anything we've had in the past.

Yes, it's cheesy as hell to say a vacuum cleaner has changed my life, but I'm sat working today with a clean floor instead of a dusty one (and I've always loved a bit of Brie). Shark have knocked it out of the park with this one, delivering a truly enjoyable home-cleaning experience.
