A mantra I like to live by is ‘There is no such thing as too many coats’ that’s why I have a wardrobe bursting at the seams with a variety of jackets. I’m going to be recommending some of the classic coats, jackets and blazers you need in your capsule wardrobe so you can always look like a boss babe.

Padded Jacket

This type of jacket has been around for a while and doesn’t seem to be budging from the fashion world. There are many styles of padded jackets to choose from and they are the perfect design for the winter months. It almost feels like you’re still wrapped up in your duvet and who doesn’t want that!?

The perfect fit should be slightly oversized so there is room for layering up. Depending on how adventurous you’re feeling you can go for a standard hip length or a floor length (this style is my personal favourite) or a cropped waist it is down to your own preference. I would recommend starting with black and adding neutral colours as your collection grows.

To style, pair a long padded jacket with jogging bottoms and matching jumper, add chunky trainers and a cross body bag for a casual and cosy shopping trip look. Opt for a cropped padded jacket and add skinny black jeans, turtle neck jumper and chunky boots for a classic daytime look.

Trench Coat

Another staple coat that has not left the fashion world since it entered is the trench coat. Such a classy addition to any outfit and perfect for work wear. The lighter material, long length and belt exaggerates a cinched waist making a flattering figure.

The perfect fit should be knee length and have a belt attached to show off your figure. I would recommend going for a neutral colour such as a beige, brown or nude and accessorise with black

To style, pair with a knitted dress, chunky boots and gold jewellery for a sophisticated look. Swap a dress for a turtle neck jumper and some leather leggings for a more casual look.

Faux Fur Coat

It’s finally cold enough to break out the faux fur coats. These are ideal for the winter as they are super cosy whilst still being on trend.

The perfect fit should be a happy medium as there can be a chance the coat will drown you if it is too big. However it needs to be big enough to fit a jumper and layers underneath as the British weather remains unpredictable. A black faux fur coat is a good place to start but as your collection grows you can add different colours, such as caramel, nude, white, or if you’re feeling daring a bright red or deep blue.

To style pair with leather leggings, white shirt with a turtleneck over the top, chunky trainer and a cross body bag for a trip into town to do the Christmas shopping. To style up add a dress, strappy heels and gold jewellery for the perfect party season fit.

Teddy Coat/Jacket

Another perfect coat of the freezing cold temperatures that are settling over the UK, the teddy coat is the best way to stay warm this winter. Combining a comfort of fleece with the sophistication of shearling and the softness faux fur to give us all the hugs we need without the fear of social distancing.

The perfect fit should be the same as the Faux fur coat, enough room for layers and scarves to be tucked into. They come in above knee length or a cropped length however I would recommend a longer version and stick with the neutral colour palette, black and white for easy styling.

To style pair with chunky boots, mom jeans and a cropped jumper for a casual and easy look. To style up add a pair of heeled boots, fitted dress and gold jewellery for a winter look that will turn heads.

Shacket

A shacket (or shirt-jacket)  is the perfect transition jacket from autumn to winter. The best way to describe a shacket is a button-down shirt; being light enough to not look too wintery, but heavy enough that there is no need for a coat.

The perfect fit should be oversized and light material. There are many different colours and patterns that a shacket comes in. I would start with a black and white check pattern or a beige/neutral colour.

To style, add jogging bottoms with a matching cropped jumper, chunky trainers and a cross body bag for a lazy Sunday look. Add a pair of jeans and button up the shacket and add chunky boots for a more sophisticated look.

Blazer

I have been obsessed with blazers for every season. Whether it be a smart work look or a chic bottomless brunch outfit a blazer never fails to take it to the next level and add a touch of class.

The perfect fit should be a good quality material don’t be afraid to splash the cash a little it’ll be a good investment. I would start with a fitted blazer and add a boyfriend/oversized blazer as your collection grows.

To style pair with leather leggings, a cropped top and strappy heels for a night on the town. To tone down add jogging bottoms, matching top, chunky trainers and cross body bag for an edgy casual look.

Ready. Set. Shop.

I would recommed vistitng ZARA, ASOS, & Other Stories, Bershka, H and M, PLT, Missguided and MissPap for all your coat needs. Make sure you add these to your Chirstmas list you never know what Santa might bring.
