Rihanna showed off her new do at the MTV VMA awards last week

Rihanna has proved herself the hair chameleon of her generation with another transformation, this time sporting a close crop.

Session stylist and Remington Ambassador Chris Appleton, who has shot with Vogue, Marie Claire and Grazia and worked on the likes of Tali Lennox, Pixie Geldof and Daphne Guinness says: “Rihanna really suits this short crop, it looks so fresh on her and really sophisticated. Hair remains the easiest way to change your appearance and ramp up the wow factor which Rihanna’s really done, and she’ll be able to wear wigs over this style whenever she wants to change it again.”

For those who are looking to recreate the look, follow Ken Picton's, Award-winning stylist and Shu Uemura Ambassador, advice:

“This dramatic look is so easy to style and suits oval face shapes and small features – if you have a round face have lots of angles in your cut and a pointy fringe shaping into points over the ears. A fringe will shorten a long face. It can be worn sleek or matte – matte textured hair is a key look for this season so muss it up with Shu Uemura Volume Maker or a wax."

Must have product:

OCS Wax £12.95 (75ml) contains no petroleum jelly or mineral oil, which can have a drying effect on the hair and cause product build up. Beeswax fixes the hair while Castor Isostearate Succinate (a castor oil derivative) conditions the hair and scalp. Also contains Propanediol, an ECOCERT approved moisturiser. Minimises frizz and adds texture – the perfect complement to a crop.
