Sex

Britons are relying on soap stars to spice up their sex lives so a new 'sex-com' has been launched to encourage us to think more carefully about sleeping around. Watch the first episode below:

Mates, follows the friendships, relationships, sexual adventures, and comical mishaps of six friends. With each weekly episode available for downloading at anytime, Mates allows viewers to have their soap fix whilst also encouraging them to have great sex.

A survey - commissioned by Mates Condoms to celebrate the launch of Mates, the UK’s first purely online and interactive ‘sex-com’ - shows that Roxanne Pallet (Jo Stiles in Emmerdale) is Britain’s favourite female fantasy figure. Meanwhile Female First Hottie of The Day Robert Kazinsky (Sean Slater in Eastenders) scoops the honour of most popular male fantasy figure.

But while soaps stars are turning viewers on, the soaps themselves are having a negative effect on the public’s real-life sexual antics. Given the choice, four times as many people would watch a soap over getting frisky with their partner – and on average, we spend over 50% longer watching soaps than having sex each week.

The results also showed that 26% of women voted for the infamous Brookside ‘Lesbian Kiss’ as the sauciest soap moment

A staggering 56% said the Sharon/Grant/Phil love triangle in Eastenders was the steamiest ever

On average, 15% of men fantasise about politicians, rising to 27% amongst women

And 23% of people would even go as far as making their partner wait if they tried to get down to business during an episode of their favourite soap opera

Esther Laycock-Smith, Senior Brand Manager for Mates Condoms, comments: “We created Mates because we wanted to put the fun back into sex – we all have such busy lives that sex often slips down the list of priorities and can become as routine as the TV schedules. These results show that while the imagination is there, we’re not taking the time to put our fantasies into practice."

"By making our ‘sex-com’ interactive, the public will be able to influence the story, whilst also taking inspiration for themselves – after all, we should all be having great sex, not just the fictional characters.”
