Man of the Hour: Marc Jacobs

Man of the Hour: Marc Jacobs

The Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards show returned last night with Lady Gaga and Marc Jacobs as two of their most highly regarded.

Suprising even the president of the CDFA Diane Von Furstenburg in thinking she would wear something low-ley, Lady Gaga did us all proud turning up in a less than understated outfit for her big night. She went for bobbed turquoise hair do with a custom Thierry Mugler beaded tulle and lace over her spikey leather and mesh bodysuit.

There was plenty of A-List spotting available as Kanye West, Gerard Butler, Naomi Watts, Ashley Greene and Miranda Kerr attended the event. It was a beautiful sight to witness the big screen royals meet with fashion's finest as the Queen of Vogue herself, Anna Wintour attended, as well as designers including Marc Jacobs and Vera Wang - it was a who is who of fashion and just the type of thing we like to see.

The winners:

Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandes of Proenza Schouler - womenswear designer of the year.

Michael Bastian - menswear designer of the year

Alexander Wang - Accessory of the year

Lady Gaga - Fashion Icon Award

Marc Jacobs - Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award

The fashion world waited with bated breath to hear what Marc Jacobs, a clear favourite among the media, professional industry as well as every woman's wardrobe, had to say.

After being presented with the award by good friend Sofia Coppola he said to the crowd: "This achievement is born of love, passion and creativity...and a hell of a lot of hard work. I believe we all know and feel the greatest reward is the process itself."

Inspiring as those words might be, the winner of womenswear designer of the year was snapped up by young talent at Proenza Schouler and served as a reminder to the established members of the competitive fashion community there are little snappers at their heels awaiting to take their thrones.

Forget oxygen...it's at events like this you're breathing in pure fashion.
