Hello Kitty is to take on Barbie in the battle of the toys at next week's New York Fashion Week.
Barbie will be showcasing a collection to celebrate her 50th birthday using outfits by designers including Vera Wang, Jason Wu,Calvin Klein and Donna Karan. Hello Kitty will be using the event to launch her cosmetics collection for MAC.
Thirty Hello Kitty dresses have also been made by designers which will be auctioned of on eBay in aid of the Museum at The Fashion Institute of Technology, Vogue reports.
Emanuel Ungaro designer Esteban Cortazar, who made one of the dresses, tells The New York Times: "I love that there is an innocence about Hello Kitty, but she's also sexy."
David Blond, designer of The Blonds fashion label adds: ""They're both pretty relevant in terms of their fashion. Hello Kitty is edgier, and Barbie is more sophisticated."
