Paris Haute Couture Week 2011...

As the fashion world sits down on the front row with taller expectations than their six inch Manolo Blaniks, the designers prep their handstiched-with-love collections with only the intention of impressing.

Dior kicked off Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week with what can only be described as extras outfits from Katy Perry's California Gurls video. Not exactly what we were expecting from a fall/winter collection, the colours were bright, bold and in every shade and stripe imaginable.

Aside from the hugely evident missing link that is the disgraced Galliano, there was no iconic fur we have come to expect from this power fashion house.

With a bow from Bill Gaytten which sparked speculation galore (is he Galliano's replacemet, isn't he? TBC), this is a team whose work, rightly or wrongly, missing the focus and direction from their leader.

Givenchy and Riccardo Tisci return to Paris Couture Week with their modernist approach to the art. With the collection hanging from above for the audienc to adore, this is a line that was created with a loving heart, cramp-infused fingers and tear jerking intricacy that is evident from one glance at the beautiful dresses. It cannot be denied that there is a sense of luxury, seduction and the absolute best in this line with the top models and materials being used for pieces.

In keeping with the bridal theme, all are ivory-based in tone with enough angelic lace and frills to make the Duchess of Cambridge's wedding gown weep. They are artist and very much creations for the eye as much as the body.

Armani attracted the glitterati to his runway show. His Geisha inspired collection was classic and sophisticated with the couture techniques being highlighted in his bamboo-esque detail. The japanese designs were finished off beautifully with the use of black velvet to emphasise the detail and patterns worked into the pieces.

Enthusiasts of Armani's signature look, including actress Katie Holmes on the front row decked in Armani, will also be pleased to see the staple high-waist trousers and fitted tuxedo jackets.

Chanel stole the show with their collection of classic tailoring and creativity. Their exceptional suits and skirts are something that Karl Lagerfield should be proud of as we're sure they are set to inspire plenty of highstreet chain's work over the coming months. Anna Wintour was there on the iconic front row dressed exactly as she is seen: On top of her game.

The clothes are simply beautiful. Blues, slate greys, browns and blacks bring the staple for the f/w collection but are injected with a glitter thread and beads that make them must haves for any professional next season.

With an overall air of the 1940s, tweed was the main player material and the fishtail cut skirt providing a welcome change to the pencil skirt. The key trend: Slim waist and big shoulders.

Whoever said power dressing was out?
