Eight Teams From Across The World Converged on Central London for a spectator-friendly version Of The Traditional Polo Game

The Twenty20 of Polo, Featured a Champagne Garden from Veuve Clicquot, Pitchside Bars, a Luxury Shopping Village, Military Displays, Medieval Jousting and Much More..

The event became a spectacal of fashion, sport and general good fun entertainment and took place - June 4th, 5th and 6th 2010, for only the second time in nearly a century, Hurlingham Park in London thundered with the hooves of world-class polo players in the World Polo Series at Mint Polo in the Park.  More than 32,000 spectators attended the weekend spectacular and packed the stands to cheer Team London to victory as they fought to defend last year’s historic win amongst a total of eight fully professional teams.

The new style was created to highlight the high-octane and exciting family friendly sport of polo and showcase it with world’s first fully-pro tournament.

With the 2010 tournament now well and truly under-way, yet more developments in the rules have been causing interest across the sports world.  Each of the world-renowned eight teams, lose a player, each team now features just three players per side which will make the game yet faster and more exhilarating as the World Polo Series turns polo from a lifestyle into a professional sport.

Team New York Captain and Ralph Lauren Ambassador Nacho Figueras comments: "MINT Polo in the Park has developed some terrifying rules, the game is so fast and now with just three players per side the matches are positively on fire, and using double the amount of ponies per game, riding each one at breakneck speeds for just three minutes.  I love the long-shots at goal and this year Team New York has a solid line up.  We’re going to take the crown away from London".

By the removal of some rules and the introduction of many exciting and thrilling new ones, such as the placement of a D-ring, much like in basketball, world class players will be encouraged to take the long-shot for more points. The ball will be a distinctive colour to ensure it is visible on the pitch, and team captains, coaches and referees will be wearing microphones and head-cams so spectators can see and hear exactly what is taking place on the field. The pitch is smaller to guarantee everyone can follow exactly what is going on, This makes for much faster paced and more interactive play.

The event was a full weekend of entertainment, with central London’s first every jousting competition, stunt riders from famous Hollywood blockbusters, military displays from the best of our Armed Forces and finally a number of ‘skills’ events from the polo players, including penalty shoot-outs and the longest-shot at goal.

The event included hospitality at The Hurlingham Club, including fine dining or picnic box packages and the first ever Harrods and Veuve Clicquot Afternoon Tea which guests receive after coming through from the Hurlingham Club, in the exclusive pitchside hospitality marquee.

In order to promote a healthy lifestyle, Hammersmith and Fulham Council have launched a free Polo Lessons initiative for the local Comprehensive Schools within the Borough.  Each week, World Polo Series players such as Jack Kidd will host a day of lessons on Hurlingham Park where groups of school children (aged 11) will take part in lessons as part of their PE classes.  Victoria Grace, who’s polo training Academy, Ascot Park, host the lessons on Hurlingham Park comments; "It is cheaper to come and have a polo lesson than it is to play 5-a-side football.  You need absolutely no riding experience, which is another common misconception, and we take young interested players from a standing start to playing polo within an hour.  It’s incredible to see such progress
