The Alexis Barrell AW13 collection

The Alexis Barrell AW13 collection

Alexis Barrell's AW13 collection was a far cry from the feminine prints of her SS pieces, with a definitive more hardened approach to materials, fabrics and colours.

An off-schedule presentation allowed the details and contrast of fabrics to be seen up close and allow them to truly be admired.

'Metropolis' was inspired by futuristic artists like Giacomo Balla, the aesthetic of Fritz Lang and pre-war Berlin, contemporary surrealist illustrators such as Olaf Hayek and the colour palettes of Helen Frankenthaler.

Beautiful textures of calf-skin and mohair were juxtaposed with leather and PVC pieces.

One model wore a beautiful printed silk with an oversized leather skirt, her coat was flush over her shoulders, the standout trend of London Fashion Week street style.

The theme behind the collection is Berlin street art and the punk scene, with Dietrich-inspired in terms of androgyny.

Concrete, cement, steal and black on black with accents of acid yellow and mauve, oiled greens, electric blue and orange where the colours that made up this beautiful collection.

Alexis Barrell continues to move from strength to strength.

She's off to Miami soon too, I overheard at the presentation, looking for inspiration for the next collection already. Surfer chic, we're ready for you.
