Although a permanent four day working week is what many of us dream of, sadly we have to go back to real life after the heavy drinking, barbecues and socialising is over on the Tuesday.

But that doesn’t mean every day has to be bland. If you’re looking out for them, there are weird holidays most days! And although they aren’t celebrated by taking the day off work, they do bring some sparks of excitement to brighten up and break up the week.

So if you’re already looking forward to the next bank holiday, here are some totally random, tasty, and thought-provoking holidays to look forward to.

National Spaghetti Day

Pasta may originate from Italy, but it is loved, eaten and even celebrated all around the world.

January 4th sees the classic dish celebrated for all it’s tasty goodness. If you’re not serving up spaghetti with sauce, meatballs and parmesan on this day, then can you really say you adough the dish?

How to celebrate: Eat spaghetti for breakfast, lunch, tea and supper...

Batman Day

Batman is one of our favourite superheroes - so we’re not wholly surprised there’s a day to honor and celebrate the fictional comic book character.

Although it’s unknown how Batman day became a thing, we are big fans of it. So much so, that on May 1st this year, you’ll catch us in fancy dress Bruce Wayning it up.

How to celebrate: Have a Batman marathon.

Towel Day

This could be the most random holiday of them all - a day to celebrate towels… Although on the surface this seems like a day to celebrate the material which we dry ourselves with, it actually holds a much deeper meaning.

The fun holiday celebrated on May 25th was started by fans of Douglas Adams, who wanted to give him a fitting tribute. They decided that the best way to do this would be to have a day where they carry towels around with them, because in Douglas Adams Book - The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy - towels are described as one of the most useful things an interstellar hitchhiker can have.

How to celebrate: Take a selfie with your towel.

National Ice Cream Day

A real thing! On the third Sunday of July in the U.S, people across the country enjoy the frozen dessert! And it’s not just a more recent social media celebration either…There’s some serious history involved in this day!

Back in 1984, President at the time Ronald Reagan declared National Ice Cream Month by signing proclamation 5219. He wanted the delicious dessert to be recognised and appreciated annually and encouraged Americans to observe this day with appropriate activities and celebrations.

How to celebrate: Eat your bodyweight in ice-cream. It’s what Ronald Reagan would’ve wanted.

National Coffee Day

So there seems to be a common theme here of food and drink - but we aren't complaining. Any excuse to indulge in our favourite treats and snacks is good enough for us.

And if having a day to celebrate coffee means we can feel less guilty about buying a double shot caramel latte with cream and sprinkles on, twice, then we will take that!

This day is celebrated on October 1st, just as the air begins to get colder and the leaves fall from the trees - the perfect time to wrap up warm with a hot beverage and appreciate the little things!

How to celebrate: Consume as much caffeine as possible - just try not to pass out.

World Kindness Day

Here’s a holiday we can all get behind… World Kindness Day!

What we all need more of in the world (yes, Batman, coffee and ice-cream are also on the list) is kindness. That’s why we love November 13th.

Whether you pay a stranger a compliment or donate to a charity, if you can’t find it in yourself to be kind at any other point during the year, at least make the effort on November 13th! You’ll put a smile on someone’s face and we’re sure that it’ll make you feel good too.

How to celebrate: Send some flowers to a friend, acknowledge and help a homeless person, take cookies into the office.

America Recycles Day

It seems that November is the month of the goodwill holidays.

Two days after World Kindness Day is America Recycles Day (November 15th) so perhaps a week of good karma?

This holiday recognises the importance of recycling and protecting the climate and the world. Although we encourage recycling all year round, this day particularly pushes people to reflect on how they could better their lifestyles for the planet.

How to celebrate: Give your old clothes and books to the local charity shop.
