Santa on a spaceship, a sleigh pulled by unicorns and a white Christmas are some of the imaginative things kids want to see this festive season, according to a new survey by Kinder.

The nation’s children and parents have revealed what their most magical Christmas wishes are; with a Lapland style winter wonderland experience topping the list for nearly half (46%) of those polled, followed by sleeping overnight in a toy store (25%) and seeing Santa’s sleigh pulled by unicorns(20%) instead of his trusty reindeer.

A third of parents (32%) say a white Christmas would be their child’s ultimate wish, whilst seven in 10 (70%) believe snow on Christmas Eve would make it more magical for their children.

Despite this, the poll by Kinder – which aimed to discover what families think would make their Christmas even more magical - also revealed that nearly two thirds of children (62%) have never actually experienced a white Christmas, with those in the South East (70%) least likely to have enjoyed a seasonal snowfall.

When it comes to writing Christmas lists, children can be just as creative, with a time machine, the ability to be invisible, a magic treehouse and a new brother or sister all featuring in the wish list.

Although the Apple iPad (26%) topped kids’ Christmas lists, they actually chose simple pleasures such as ‘spending time with family’ more than the ‘latest must-have toy’.

A Kinder spokesperson said: “Christmas is a magical time of year when young imaginations really come to life and our research shows children’s creativity knows no bounds. With endearing requests such as a pet unicorn and a real life minion appearing on Christmas lists, it’s clear that Santa has his work cut out this year!”

According to the research, a third of children (34%) start talking about Christmas in November, with excitement peaking for 58% of kids when the decorations go up and after opening the first door of their advent calendar (46%). Other festive milestones include waiting for Santa (40%) and writing a Christmas list (38%).

And it’s not just children enjoying the magic of Christmas, with nearly half (46%) of grown-ups saying they get just as caught up in the excitement as their kids.

To keep the magic of Christmas alive, parents’ favourite trick appears to be taking a bite out of Santa’s mince pie (47%), followed by leaving mystery presents under the tree (43%) and arranging magical activities (39%).

This Christmas, Kinder is asking Facebook fans to share their children’s most imaginative festive wishes for a chance to see them brought magically to life. For a sneak peek as to how this will unfold, visit:
