Drivers travelling on the M25 can now see real-time information on how long their journey will take on electronic roadside signs as a new service is rolled out across England.

This new service follows a successful trial in the West Midlands and South West, which has proved very popular with motorists, with 89% of those questioned stating that they thought the travel, and delay time messages were a good idea.

The messages, part of a new service from the National Traffic Control Centre, tell drivers the expected travel time to specific junctions on the M25. This information will help motorists make more informed decisions about weather they should embark on journeys involving the M25, Europe's busiest motorway.

I was recently on the M6 and saw this sign blazing ahead of me. My heart sank as I immediately thought ‘oh no, delays, road closures’ whatever, but as I drew closer, realised it was a time sign. However, by the time I had finished reading it, I had nearly swerved lanes! Oops.

Did it help me? Not really but what on earth is the point of putting it on the M25? Regular users of this ‘road to hell’ know only too well the M25 rarely moves more than a snails pace and do we, as drivers, really want to know its going to take us 12 hours to crawl 12 miles.

No thank you. Spend the money more wisely please.
