An amazing cure for children’s car-sickness, a 15 % reduction in fuel consumption plus smoother and more proficient driving style can all be achieved by using a car accessory that costs just a few pounds according to GEM Motoring Assist member Audrey Wixon.

Audrey, who is a driving instructor, explains: "You fill the fruit bowl with water, place it in a plastic container to cope with any spillage, pop it in the boot and then drive in a smooth progressive manner in an attempt to spill the minimum amount of water."

It is method she has used to help her pupils who drive erratically, tear off at speed, change gear jerkily, steer suddenly and brake late and heavily as well as making her learner drivers better at clutch control and handle poor visibility T-junctions more carefully.

I used to put a beaker on water on the dashboard when teaching my pupils these masterful arts of driving techniques, what a nancy world we are living in today.

But had no idea it was saving me fuel and reducing car-sickness. ‘How’ I wondered especially as my son is becoming rather prone to car sickness.

Well GEM explained that a smooth ride will keep any passenger comfortable and helps to combat that queasy feeling that many children get.

Oops that told me didn’t it?
