Christopher Nolan

Our look at the best directors of 2012 continues today as we celebrate the work that Christopher Nolan has delivered in 2012.

We have had to wait two long years since a Nolan movie last graced the big screen, that being Inception, and four years since the last instalment of the Batman franchise.

The Dark Knight is widely regarded as one of the best comic book movies of all time and following it was going to be a very tough job.

But this summer saw The Dark Knight Rises hit the big screen and it was to be the last time that we would see Nolan helm a Batman movie.

Once again Nolan has delivered a sweeping epic and there is a real apocalyptic feel to the film as it tackles modern day issues, ideas and concerns.

The Dark Knight Rises is everything that I hoped it would be and so much more as Nolan once again blurs the lines between good and evil to deliver a riveting story from start to finish that is full of intriguing characters and sub-plots.

The Dark Knight Rises is one of the best blockbusters to hit the big screen this year as it was brought to an epic and triumphant conclusion.

Nolan has delivered one of the greatest movie trilogies and it is really sad to see him leave this franchise behind - I have to admit I feel sorry the director that comes after him.

But what is so great about this franchise is Nolan created a series of movies that were dark and edgy and very much made with an adult audience in mind - which is a breathe of fresh air.

And he will be back on blockbuster duty next summer as he is set to serve as producer on Man of Steel as the Superman franchise is rebooted.

Nolan has been brought on board for his expertise in this genre and it Man of Steel promises to be one of the must see blockbusters of next summer.

Sadly there is no Nolan directed project on the horizon in 2013 and FemaleFirst are hoping that we won’t have to wait too long until we see a movie of is back on the big screen.

Nolan is one of the most visionary and exciting directors working at the moment and it is interesting to see what he does next.
